We are pleased to announce that the Nova Gorica Railway Station has received the Golden Pencil 2026 Award.
The project forms an important part of the transformation of the border area between Nova Gorica and Gorizia within the framework of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025. It reinterprets the former line of separation as a shared public space, transforming the railway station from a place of everyday transit into a place of encounter, connection and exchange.
As noted by the jury, the project is distinguished by its “layering of meanings” and the creation of a new urban environment that goes beyond the upgrade of transport infrastructure itself.
Thank you to ZAPS and the jury for this recognition, and to everyone involved in making the project possible.
BIG NEWS. WE ARE TURNING 30!
Three decades of architecture, research, experimentation, and projects that have shaped cities, public space, and contemporary architecture.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.
The construction of the new Ljubljana Railway Station is entering its final phase. The main structure of the new overpass has been completed, while installation of the glass roof and façade, finishing works in the underpass, and platform infrastructure works are currently underway. At the same time, the renovation of the historic station building continues.
Designed as a bridge above the existing railway tracks, the new station connects different parts of the city while bringing together the functions of the railway passenger hub into a unified whole. Ljubljana will soon gain a new main gateway to the city and one of the largest infrastructure investments in the modern history of Slovenia’s railway network.
