Plečnik Award 2013
For KSEVT, Cultural Center of EU Space Technologies in Vitanje, Slovenia, dedicated to Herman Potočnik-Noordung, the first space theoretician. The building exceeds being an exhibition space with its enhancements of communal everyday life. The teamwork between four architectural offices have set new standards of current architectural production.
The exhibition of awarded works takes place in Gallery DESSA in Ljubljana.

The opening of the exibition took place on Thursday, 21 October at 7 PM at Geozavod building, Karadjordjeva 48, Belgrade, Serbia.
Opening address from Zoran Janković, Mayor of Ljubljana and Dejan Vasović, City Architect.
The exhibition was organized by SADAR + VUGA in association with the Centre for Architecture. Exhibition design was by Vanja Petrović, d.i.a. and Goran Petrović, d.i.a., produced by Mirjana Divac.
Partners of the exhibition: Hidria, Kalcer, Intra Lighting, Trimo.
The exhibition will be on display until 31 October, 2010.

CEUM, Center of Performing Arts Maribor
Maribor will gain another great piece of infrastructure, the Center of Performing Arts Maribor [CEUM], which will overlook the city from the south bank of the Drava River. The project will provide world-class black-box performance and rehearsal spaces, and a series of public spaces which will transform the area to a new urban destination. The design examines the dialogues between a series of binary oppositions: the city and the theater, the generic and the specific, the performer and spectator. The project will be completed in 2012, when Maribor will be designated European Capital of Culture.

Sports Park Stožice: Opening games
First basketball and football matches will take place in August at Ljubljana's new sports hall and football stadium, in advance of the forthcoming opening of phase one of the landmark Sports Park Stožice project in September.
Slovenia will play basketball with Spain on August 10 at the opening match of the new 12,000-seat Sports hall, a multifunction facility capable of hosting sporting events [handball, basketball, tennis etc.] as well as music and other cultural performances. The opening football match between Slovenia and Australia on August 10 will mark the opening of the spectacular 16,000 seat stadium.
Phase one of the project incorporates the stadium, sports hall, and the northern section of the park, and be officially opened on September 18, 2010.

SPS: Construction Site - June 2010
From a distance, the stadium roof appears complete with only finished touches remaining to be installed. The rest of the stadium is coming together rapidly with final wall finishes being applied and mechanical and electrical services being installed. The seats are also being assembled on the stands. One can see the television "nests" where the cameras will be located.
The arena roof is prepared for final cladding, a small area of the scale-like diamond pattern is completed with the same finish as the stadium. The steel framing of the perimeter canopy is nearly complete. The arena interior is taking shape with ceiling cladding, lighting and finished in-progress.
Structural concrete work for the shopping mall is complete and the large open plaza area now clearly defined. The first of the smoke and ventilation outlets are in progress, and work will now begin on the final finishes of the northern part of the park. All of the access roads are nearly finished.

ATCC Construction Site Report
Presented here is the short aerial preview of construction of the Air Traffic Control Centre at Ljubljana Airport, which started a few months ago. The new building of ATCC will be one of the first ones in the masterplan area of the airport. The building will follow the regulations of the spatial plan for the area with its access, connections with the road network, exterior settings and greenery.

Sps: Construction Site - May 2010
The stadium is nearing completion with all walls in place awaiting final finishes. As this work continues, aluminium cladding panels are being installed on the roof, revealing the multicoloured reflections of the dichotic finish. The grass of the soccer pitch is fully installed and is being watered daily.
The sports hall is also receiving its final cladding and glazing, and the steelwork of the perimeter canopy now gives a clear indication of its twisting form. The interior is also ready to receive final finishes.
Concrete work for the shopping mall is very near completion with the entire park-level slab in place, revealing the true extent of the light-filled atriums with their 19 meter tall V-columns. The many voids of the light shafts allow natural light into the shopping level below. The large sunken plaza has also taken shape, and the first of the nearby pavilions are taking shape.

SPS: CONSTRUCTION SITE - APRIL 2010
As the shopping area rapidly expands to fill the void between the stadium and the arena, structural framing has been completed for both the both buildings. The completed grandstands of the stadium await the seating to be installed, and the irrigation for the football pitch is being laid. The steel-framed roof which has now been clad and painted reaches far overhead, revealing the beautiful spatial effect of its lattice structure. Lighting is installed and partially functional already. The first layer of cladding of the arena's roof is complete, and like the stadium, the elegant steel framing is complete. Although it awaits wall cladding, the leaping curved beams reveal the architectural effect of their form. Some glazing is being installed. The interior is taking shape, also with grandstands in place, with the walls of the interior spaces mostly complete.

SADAR + VUGA: MAKING OF ...
We invite you to our upcoming exhibition entitled SADAR + VUGA: MAKING OF ..., which will open on 7th April at noon in the Gallery AHO in Oslo, Norway.
As suggested by its title the Making of… exhibition focuses precisely on the production and construction of the projects from the very initial design scheme to the fully realised project, unveiling the different anticipated and unforeseen transformations of the various projects. In doing so the driving design concepts – ‘formulas’ in the words of the architects – of these different projects is revealed and lends itself to reflection and instrumentalisation for future projects. Enabling the visitor to engage with the work in this way transcends typical architectural exhibitions and enables a richer platform for discourse, highlighting yet again SADAR + VUGA’s intent to operate on architectures social and political role and responsibility that these architects so clearly perceive.

Concrete works on the Sports Hall are going to an end. The supporting structure is nearly finished and ready for the assembly of the steel roof, which will take place somewhere in the end of the month.

SPS: CONSTRUCTION SITE - NOVEMBER 2009
The construction works on the Shopping Centre and parking areas started this month. You can already see the foundations and columns occupying the southern part of the site. On the Sports Hall part, we are also nearing the construction of the steel roof, beginnings of which may be included in our next report. Until then, enjoy the new images.

Golden Pencil Award
We have received the "Golden Pencil Award" for our project Villa Beli Križ. Each year the Golden pencil is awarded by the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia to the most notable projects of the past year. Villa Beli Križ was awarded in the category "residential building".

The brainchild of ten international architects (among them Matthias Hollwich, Charles Renfro iz Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, Juergen Mayer), BOOM was conceived for the gay community but readily extends its embrace to all. BOOM is pedestrianoriented, culture-driven, and designed to inspire its residents to better themselves and others.

New Trajectories: Contemporary Architecture in Croatia and Slovenia

How are emerging practices in these newly independent countries setting new benchmarks in innovative design? How have young Croatian and Slovenian architects embraced both the legacy of their architectural traditions and forward-thinking production? What will be the impact of the countries’ joining the European community on the design sphere?
These and other questions are addressed in “New Trajectories: Contemporary Architecture in Croatia and Slovenia,” which focuses on the work of thirteen practices. The exhibition, which is curated by Mariana Ibanez, Assistant Professor of Architecture, will be on display in Gund Hall Gallery at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design beginning September 8, 2008. A moderated discussion with architects from both countries will be held in conjunction with the exhibition from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on September 17 in Gund Hall’s Piper Auditorium.
